FAQ

A View is the 360° scenery around a place. A Room is its 3D architecture: the floor, walls, windows, desk position, openings, and other geometry you can move within. Locus combines them into an experience.

Virtual Space places you inside a 3D Room while keeping your real desk available for work. Room Portal keeps your real room present and opens multiple detected walls onto the same View. You can open or close walls individually, or use Open All and Close All. Locus does not currently open the ceiling.

Available in Locus 1.1.2 or later.

Yes. Turn on Settings → Workspace → Viewing position once. Then, in a Virtual Space, choose Settings in the bar, choose Recline at the bottom of Current Place, and move Recline angle toward Lying down, up to 90°. Choose Reset to upright when you sit up again.

This tilts the Room and View together. Move your windows separately to a comfortable position. Real desk alignment is paused while reclined, and Room Portal does not tilt. The angle lasts for the current session. Follow the two-minute lying-down tutorial.

Yes. Many Rooms have sofa and lounge seats alongside their desks, including Atrium Loft and Horizon Atelier. In a Virtual Space, choose Seats in the bar and pick a seat from the list, or pinch one of the seat markers that appear in the Room while Seats is open. Seats that share a sofa or table are grouped; open the group to choose the exact seat. Desk seats show a desk icon, and lounge seats show a chair.

A lounge seat puts you at sofa height and never measures a desk, so there is no Measure Desk step and no desk passthrough there.

Available in Locus 1.1.5 or later.

At a desk seat, choose Settings in the bar and turn on the Hide desk tile in Quick Controls. The desk and everything on it disappear, and they stay hidden across seats, Rooms and Views until you leave the place. To start every visit with the desk hidden, turn on Settings → Workspace → Hide desk by default.

Hiding the desk does not stop Locus from lining your seat up with your real desk. Hide Desk appears only in Rooms whose author has marked which objects make up each desk.

Choose Seats in the bar, then Move Seat. Use the main pad to move forward or back and turn left or right. Use Move left / right in the right-hand card for sideways steps, and Up / down to change height. Pick a step size of 1 cm · 1°, 5 cm · 15°, or 25 cm · 45°. Moves follow the direction you face. Choose Save to keep that position for the seat, or Save as… → Save as a New Seat to add a seat of your own and leave the Room’s seat as it was.

To add a seat anywhere in the Room, choose Add Seat, name it, place it with Move & turn, and choose Save. Each Room keeps up to 20 of your own seats. They have no desk, so desk measuring does not apply there. See Customize the Seat.

Open Mac Virtual Display before entering a Locus virtual environment. If you open Mac Virtual Display after entering the environment, visionOS exits that environment. Connect to your Mac from Control Center first, then enter the Locus place.

Mac Virtual Display normally does not remain available inside immersive apps. Apple provides a developer setting that can allow it: pair Apple Vision Pro with Xcode, enable Developer Mode, restart the headset, then enable Settings → Developer → Allow Mac Virtual Display. visionOS—not Locus—creates and controls the Mac window. If the Mac window is hidden behind the Room's desk, a wall, or foliage, choose Settings in the bar and pick Windows & Crown under Immersion (or turn on Settings → Workspace → Immersion dial); the Mac window and its move bar then always stay in front of the Room. Locus works normally without Developer Mode or Mac Virtual Display. See the complete Mac Virtual Display guide for requirements and limitations.

In a Virtual Space, the system move bar below a window may disappear when it is viewed against the surrounding View. The window remains usable, and the move bar still works even when it is not visible.

Look just below the window, then pinch and drag where the bar normally appears. Moving the window in front of nearby Room furniture can also make the bar easier to see.

In the default mode, the Locus scene and your windows are composited by distance, so a window placed behind the desk, a wall, or foliage is covered by it. Move the window out to read it, or choose Settings → Workspace → Windows in Rooms and Views → Room makes way so furniture in front of a window turns see-through instead.

To keep every window in front, choose Settings in the bar and pick Windows & Crown under Immersion, or turn on Settings → Workspace → Immersion dial. With the dial on, all windows and their move bars always stay in front of the Room, including Mac Virtual Display.

The trade-offs: visionOS shows your physical keyboard only while you type, and Desk Cutout and one-tap Surroundings are not available. Turn the Digital Crown to bring your real surroundings back, or walk about 1.5 m away and visionOS restores them on its own. Standing up alone does not.

No. Locus lets you open web pages inside your workspace, but it is not a full web browser and does not support passkey sign-in. Use a password or another sign-in method offered by the website.

If you report a sign-in problem, include the website and what happened, but never include a password, passkey, credential, or recovery code.

When you upgrade from Locus 1.3.1 or earlier to 1.4 or later, websites you had signed into may ask you to sign in again once. Locus 1.4 moved the Browser to its own website-data store.

This one-time migration does not repeat when updating from Locus 1.4.0 to 1.4.1.

Taking off the headset does not by itself cancel a Library download. Locus asks visionOS for a limited time to keep working in the background.

If system suspension interrupts a transfer, Locus attempts a retry when you return. Keep Locus open for large downloads or a slow connection.

Locus Browser is not a general file manager. A compatible 4K, 2:1 JPEG, PNG, or HEIC image can be previewed or saved directly as a View. Other downloads are offered to the system browser or another app when they have a safe public URL; you may need to sign in or start the download again there. Your current Locus environment and tabs remain available when you return.

In Virtual Space, choose Settings in the bar and switch on the Room lights tile in Quick Controls, or look at one lamp and pinch it to switch just that lamp. The Room's own lamps light up and the space brightens, which matters most with dusk and night Views. Choose Light & Picture → Room to adjust the controls each light group supports. Available brightness and color-temperature ranges come from the Room; some groups also support full color. Choose Save for This Room… to keep your changes for that Room on this device. Until you save, the changes last only for the session.

Room Lights are available in Rooms that declare their lights, including the built-in Atrium Loft, Courtyard Gallery, and Horizon Atelier. A View can also suggest whether it is a day, dusk, night, or overcast scene so the switch starts in a sensible position. The fine-tuning tutorial walks through the related View and Room controls.

Open Places. Search Rooms and Views by name, mark any Place as a Favorite with the star on its card, and add your own tags with Edit Tags… in the card’s menu. Filter to what is On Device, Animated Views, or Places With Sound, and sort by Title or Recently Added with Favorites First on or off. Imported Views can be renamed in Edit View; built-in Views keep their published names. Renaming, favorites, and tags never change the imported image itself. By default, a new Locus Browser tab opens on your Start Page, which shows your Favorites. Select the star in the address bar to add or edit the page you are on, and open Favorites from the Browser menu to reorder or remove entries. If you would rather start on one site, set a Home Page in Settings → Browser Settings. Favorites and your open tabs are remembered between launches. With a keyboard, Command-N opens another Browser window and Command-Shift-T reopens the last closed tab. Browser windows open at 1200 × 900; in Browser settings you can keep your last saved size or fix one.

Only images at least 4,096 × 2,048 can be used directly. Open the site in Locus Browser and look for a complete 360° equirectangular JPEG, PNG, or HEIC image with an exact 2:1 ratio. Open the site's Original file or full-resolution image link so the image fills its own Browser tab, then choose Apply Preview or Save as View…. Locus offers the prompt only when the image is the whole Browser tab. Images shown inside a page, thumbnails below 4K, WebGL or canvas viewers, and images the site does not let Locus read never trigger it, and the image may also be the wrong shape or format. Open the Original file or full-resolution JPEG, PNG, or HEIC on its own and confirm that it is at least 4,096 × 2,048 with an exact 2:1 ratio. Images larger than 200 MB open but cannot be applied or saved, and Apply Preview is available only while you are inside a Place.

Apply Preview uses a temporary package for the current app session and does not use an import allowance. Save as View… adds the image permanently to your View library, uses an available import, and checks your current import entitlement. The filename is suggested as the saved View name, and you can change it before saving.

In Locus 1.2.1 and later, import a complete Package v2 ZIP containing a View or Room from Files or a direct public HTTPS URL. Package v2 preserves stable IDs and supports updates, complete View and Room features, and supported bundled Experiences. Legacy/simple flat View and Room ZIPs remain accepted but receive a new UUID on every import. You can also import one complete 2:1 equirectangular JPEG, PNG, or HEIC image as a View; Photos is available for image imports. Start with Make your own View or Make your own Room, then use the format reference for exact layouts.

Use one complete 360° equirectangular image in JPEG, PNG, or HEIC format. Its displayed width must be exactly twice its height. Direct image imports, including images opened in Locus Browser, must be at least 4,096 × 2,048. Existing View ZIPs follow the separate ZIP format rules; the 4K image-import minimum does not apply to those packages. A recommended size is 12,288 × 6,144.

Keep the horizon level. Put the direction you want to face first at the horizontal center of the image; the 360° seam belongs at the far left and right edges. Inspect that seam at full size for jumps in architecture, lighting, sky, or texture before importing. Locus normalizes the image and prepares its preview and Room lighting locally.

After importing, choose Edit View to adjust direction, brightness, contrast, color, Room lighting, and optional sunlight. These settings are saved for that View. Follow Make your own View for the basic import and advanced packaging paths.

Use your preferred modeling tool and export a self-contained, meter-scale, +Y-up USDZ. Describe its seats, safe head volume, View opening, and optional tabletop, lighting, animation, and rendering controls in complete Package v2, or use a flat Room ZIP as a legacy/simple compatibility input. Locus measures the exported model against its resource limits; authors do not need to supply collision or quality JSON fields. The runtime interaction reference explains those internal fields and how Locus uses the Room. The current public packer and validator cover only the flat compatibility format; they do not validate complete Package v2. Validate the exact delivery before choosing Import a Room.

You can build it by hand, or ask an AI coding agent to run Blender Python in the background, inspect saved renders, and revise the Room. No Blender MCP connection is required. Everyone can use Locus's built-in library and keep one custom View and one custom Room. The one-time More Imports unlock gives you unlimited imports of your own Views and Rooms permanently. An active Supporter subscription gives you unlimited custom imports and access to the Supporter place packs currently available.

Installed content is not deleted when a subscription ends. New imports above the included allowance and re-downloading a removed Supporter pack require active access. If you only want unlimited imports of your own Views and Rooms, choose the one-time More Imports option. Prices and purchase terms appear in Locus before you buy.

Locus uses your room information on Apple Vision Pro and does not upload it. Imported Places are stored in Locus on the device. Websites may save cookies and other data in the Locus browser; you can clear your history and website data in Settings. Supporter downloads send Apple-signed purchase information to the Locus Library service for subscription verification with Apple. A derived transaction identifier is used for download rate limiting, not advertising or tracking. Read the privacy notice for details.

Copy the version details from Settings → Help & About → About Locus, add your visionOS version, and say what you expected, what happened, and the shortest steps that make it happen again. Do not put room images, credentials, recovery codes, receipts, order details, account information, notifications, or device identifiers in a public issue. Use Support to choose a public or private route.
